Surgery

We are proud to offer a state of the art surgical suite to provide a variety of soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures.  We understand how stressful it is to have your pet undergo surgery.  We take every precaution before, during, and after your pet’s surgery to ensure the pet’s safety and well-being and to ensure that we are providing the best care possible.  We will communicate with you about the things you need to know to prepare for your pet’s surgical procedure, as well as what to expect on the day of surgery and the care needed for when your pet returns home.

We review your pet’s medical history, perform a physical examination, and  obtain pre-operative screening bloodwork on every pet patient prior to undergoing anesthesia for surgery.  In some cases, where pets have pre-existing health issues, other screening testing may be recommended prior to surgery, examples include: radiographs (x-rays) of the body cavities and blood pressure monitoring.  These additional tests would help determine safety under anesthesia for higher risk pets, as well as additional precautions that may be required.  We then discuss all pre-operative results with the pet owner prior to proceeding to surgery.

Our veterinarians and technicians overseeing your pet’s care in the operating room are experienced and highly trained.  We fit each anesthetic and surgical plan to your pet’s specific needs.  We utilize the safest anesthesia protocols for your pet through the use of balanced, safe anesthetic medications, the highest quality anesthesia equipment and monitoring systems, and constant attentiveness to your pet through all aspects of the anesthesia and surgical procedure.  We ensure patients are well hydrated and receive appropriate doses of anti-anxiety and pain medications to decrease their stress level on the day of surgery and minimize the post-operative pain response. We keep our pet patients warm during and after surgery with the use of a heat therapy pump, a warming device, to maintain body temperature.

The surgical procedures we offer include, but are not limited to: routine ovariohysterectomy (female spay), orchidectomy (male neuter), surgical mass/tumor removal or biopsy, abdominal exploratory surgery, aural (ear) hematoma reduction, surgical wound repair, cystotomy, amputation of leg or digit(s), ocular (eye) surgeries, oral cavity surgeries, and a variety of other soft tissue surgeries.

Our goal is to make the entire process go smoothly for your pet and to eliminate the stress and worry you may have in anticipation of a surgical procedure.  Please contact our office if you have any questions about anesthesia and surgical procedures that your pet may need or would like to schedule a surgical consultation for pre-operative planning.
